Let Us Speak Up
TWICECEKA
Under a sub-grant agreement made by Women for Women International under “TWICECEKA” Activity (Let Us Speak UP), a program activity funded by USAID to strengthen Rwandan civil society’s ability to engage the government in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV), KEEPCARE RWANDA in consortium with Rwanda Men’s Resource Centre (RWAMREC) and Faith Victory Association (FVA) is implementing a GBV prevention intervention “Effective implementation of National gender policy and sexual and reproductive health policy to reduce teenage pregnancies in schools and surrounding communities in Huye and Kicukiro Districts.”
The objectives of the intervention are to speak out against GBV issues confronting young girls by doing the following:
- Explore attitudes, perceptions and needs of teenagers and community members about teenage pregnancies
- Identify barriers encountered by young girls in accessing knowledge, skills and services on sexual reproductive health
- Implement gaps in government efforts to eradicate teenage pregnancies
- Advocate for effective implementation of the National gender policy and other government policies such as the National Reproductive Health Policy towards eradication of teenage pregnancies.
Capacity building
- 1400 teen mothers received psychosocial support in Huye and Kicukiro
- 1400 youth out of school were trained on SRHR, GBV prevention and response
- 700 parents increase knowledge on GBV prevention, and gender equality
- 500 local leaders increase knowledge on GBV prevention, and gender equality
- 700 youth in Huye were linked to Youth corner for SRHR services
Economic empowerment
- 133 teen mothers got economic support to start the business (Mushroom, selling Fruits and vegetable)
- 14 Cases referred to RIB
- 56 Children registered
- 240 teen mothers received psychosocial support and counselling
- 154 youth referred to health center for SRHR services provision
Advocacy
- Increased leader’s accountability through the use of community score card
- Community increased awareness on teenager pregnancy prevention
- Increased number of community members reporting GBV cases
Other Projects
We are a non-government organization that works to improve the lives of vulnerable teenagers through social-economic empowerment and building support for gender equality among teenagers.
